Paulette Chaffee, Bio

I moved to Fullerton with my family as a young girl. My parents bought a small house on Commonwealth Ave. where my father set up his business. Walking a mile with my friends to Raymond school was a memory from childhood. I attended Ladera Vista Jr High and Troy High School where I graduated. Over the summers, I worked as a camp counselor at the YWCA summer camp in the local mountains.

After graduating I attended the University of Redlands. During the summer breaks I worked as a server at Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant to help with college expenses. I received both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the U of R in Communicative Disorders as well as a California Lifetime Teaching Credential. I went on to work in public schools as a teacher and then as a speech therapist. I also worked as a speech therapist in clinics and hospitals. For years I have been actively involved in public education both professionally and as a volunteer. I believe that all children deserve a quality education. I am the mother of two young men who went through public schools and have actively volunteered with PTSA groups and in classrooms. I received the Above & Beyond Award from the Fullerton School District a few years ago for my work with children.

While working as a Speech & Language specialist, I always put children first. My involvement with Science Olympiad, All the Arts for All the Kids, First Five Orange County, and Legislative Advocacy Groups has given me insight into best practices for quality education. Sound fiscal management is a top priority for quality education. It is vital to ensure that all children benefit from an educational system which looks out for their needs. Educating our children is of utmost importance as our children are our future.

I attended law school and obtained my J.D. from Western State University College of Law. I have practiced law with my husband, Doug Chaffee, in Fullerton for many years. Doug and I chose to raise our two sons in Fullerton both of whom attended public schools. Our oldest son is currently an officer in the US Navy, and our youngest son is employed as a data scientist. As an experienced attorney practicing in Fullerton, I have worked with individuals and small businesses and I know the challenges they face. I have a keen understanding of legal issues related to education and have advocated for implementing best practices in our public schools. I know how to research and make informed decisions. I have used my education and skills as an
educator, lawyer, advisor, consultant and member of non-profit boards.
